Wool is an incredibly versatile medium, as our ArtFelt line demonstrates. If you’ve never seen a felted wall hanging up close, you might have a difficult time imagining how unique this art form can be. Both in our studio and on the road, our wall hangings start conversations and attract lots of compliments.

Each ArtFelt project begins as raw wool, which we trim off our pet sheep, wash, pick, card, and then transform into a “canvas” of wool felt. Then, using a combination of HeartFelt’s own kettle-dyed wool, carefully blended commercially-dyed wool, and natural wool and fiber from HeartFelt’s flock, Kris creates an image on the canvas, slowly working in layers to arrive at an end product with lots of color and texture. We then machine-felt the piece to ensure it will last beautifully for generations.

Our ArtFelt pieces vary in size and subject, so there are pieces for every budget. Kris enjoys reproducing painted masterpieces — such as Vincent Van Gogh’s The Starry Night and Claude Monet’s Cliff Walk at Pourville — in wool. Pop culture images, such as the cover of The Little Prince and The Exploding TARDIS always attract quite a following. Over the last year or so, we’ve appreciated several opportunities to felt commissioned pieces for our customers to commemorate important times in their lives.

We are especially proud to share our new Wanderstruck Studio collection with you. These felted pieces, woolen reimaginings of Kris’s favorite scenes from 5,000 miles of backpacking adventures, bring the trail experience to our customers — without all the sweat and dirt. We hope you enjoy these images from the Appalachian Trail, Pacific Crest Trail, and Camino de Santiago.
